THE SURF TRUNK GALLERY
HONOLUA SURF CO.

1999
I purchased these at the Honolua Surf company store near Poipu, Kauai. I was running on the blue nylon Katins but was feeling festive, spending little, kicking back - I wanted something which would later evoke memories of that trip. What could be better than surf trunks?

Life changed for me after that trip, however, in ways I never expected. It's been all I can do to get one day a year of "trunking it". California weather hasn't been helpful, I experienced my first deabilitating personal injury of my life, I made some serious personal/family economic choices to improve the quality of life we were living, and then there have been some heavy health-related situations within the family which have done a couple of things.

One is to have experienced seriously what we could call rude wakeup calls. Life is a gift, and is short, and it goes by so fast. We tend to get lost in fantasy in the surf world especially, and in Western culture at least here in the U.S. There isn't always time to do things tomorrow.

Before I left an aerospace career I had a few things planned out. I can't begin to express how different the life I lead today is from what I thought it would be. To quote Jimmy Buffett,  "Some of it's magic, some of it's tragic, but it's been a good life anyway." Through it all I've had water. Sometime ocean, sometimes lakes, sometimes whatever I've been able to get: hot tub, swimming pool. Sometimes just lawn sprinklers, or working in a garden putting in a drip irrigation system. Sometimes water is the lack of water, yes?
Fun with surf trunks: The two Katins and the O'Neills are all waist size 34. These HSC trunks are 33. Check the Gallery and see how the different designs fill the frame. Perceptions...
