vagabondsurf.com It's about life - not "lifestyle" |
Changes, changes... |
Coming soon to a vagabondsurf.com near you... Our original idea was to create a place where the different parts of wave-riding could mingle about, along with some general interest things. Statistics - the cold hard kind, and not the manipulated demographic variety- have shown us that what our visitors want is a nice, clean, well-lit, segregated surf site. So be it. Everything will be divided up according to equipment type. Some areas will initially have more content than others, but figure that if we have a section for it, content will come. Keep checking back. More importantly, especially for those areas which have become more obscure as the surf-clothing industry and media solidify their marketing demographic version of the world, you contribute! This can't be stressed enough. As the surfing population continues to grow at unsustainable rates surfers are getting pushed into catagories based on what equipment they use and what accessories they own and how old they are. The surf media, with the very notable exception of The Surfer's Journal, are no longer "reporting" on the sport; they are actively manufacturing and marketing specific images. If you bodysurf, ride a bellyboard, a mat, a softboard, or some other deviation from the 6'2" squashtail thruster...well, you may have noticed there isn't much content for you out there. But if you do one or hopefully more of those things, who better to create that missing content? One thing vagabondsurf.com will not do is change our target group. Everyone is still welcome, even "industry types" ;-), but we exist for the people outside the 12-24 year old 6'2" thruster crowd. Nels Norene Publisher and Editor vagabondsurf.com |
