9/11 REDUX ATTACK OF THE BONEHEADS |
LEFT: The World Trade Centers in better days. It all depends on how you look at things. |
Regular readers of vagabondsurf.com may have noticed that we have never run any tribute or commentary about the terrorist attacks now cumulatively referred to here n the U.S. as 9/11. Considering we aren't terribly shy about expressing our opinions about anything else, this may seem incongruous. What can we say? What could we say? All anybody had to do was look at the pictures. Most of us have flown in jets - mentally strap yourself in a passenger seat and take the ride. What words can add to that, or soften the blow all decent people felt? But now, a second cowardly attack on the American People has begun... What did he know, and when did he know it? The American press has dredged up these words from the dusty days of Watergate, nearly 30 years ago, as part of an opposition party election year attack. A 1999 overview study of terrorism mentioned the possibility of hijacking airplanes and using them as weapons, and now opportunistic politicians have manufacturerd some "outrage" at the current administration, virtually blaming then for the 9/11 attacks. It appears the current opposition party has been too busy counting their money, because they seem to be forgetting a President from their party was in office at that time. I guess since the attacks didn't happen then, perhaps they think they prevented it. I'm not going to name the respective political parties in this situation. I would assume most of you U.S. residents would know which is which, and I'm not sure how much it really matters. In many ways it's all in-fighting; the Incumbent Family at a drunken Christmas Dinner. It's all about money and power, how to get it and how to keep it, and it's making me sick. I'll keep the verbage down to a reasonable level, but I would ask that you read these words and think about them a bit. Check out some of the 9/11 images online if you need to refresh your memory or get some perspective. It all boils down to this: One political party is saying the terrorist attacks of 9/11 should have been prevented by the current Presidental administration. They are doing this by demanding that the sitting President of the United States explain why his administration did not take decisive action based on one small (but significant) section of one report, and more general analysis of possible future terrorist activity. Yes, it's just that simple. Seldom are these situations so black and white. All you have to do is think about it. Suppose the any President is given the report, and reads down the list of possible terrorist events, and gets to "Terrorists will hijack an unknown number of jet aricraft and turn them into weapons." Suppose the President says "This must not happen - we shall do everything in our power to keep this from happening." Well, what can the President do? There is only one thing - and that is to stop all flight in U.S. airspace. STOP ALL AVIATION, INDEFINITELY. THERE ARE NO OTHER OPTIONS TO HAVE KEPT THIS FROM HAPPENING. ANYONE WHO TELLS YOU DIFFERENT IS A LIAR OR A FOOL. Now think about the consequences of that. The economy would nose dive worse than it did after the attacks. Your 401K plan would be in the toilet. The U.S. would go into a full-blown economic depression. The country would plunge into chaos - all flight ceases because of something which might happen? The economy collapses, businesses fold, and people are out of work. Many thousands of people would probably die in the civil unrest which would follow. Extreme? What about lesser forms of prevention? The administration could have ordered private companies to undertake hundreds of millions of dollars worth of security upgrades, but based on what? Can you imagine what the Opposition Party would be saying then? And ever since the security upgrades since 9/11 the news media delights in showing people who have beaten the safeguards. So are the politicians in Washington all fools? Sometimes you wonder, but I doubt it. What we have here is election year politics. This attack is about control of the House and Senate, not protection of the American people. The fact that so much of the news media is playing along with this for the sake of product or private agenda is disgusting. This isn't Watergate. It makes Daschle and Gephart appear to be the kind of men who would gladly have their pictures taken standing on the bodies of the 9/11 victims if they thought it would put their party in power and themselves in the White House. Boneheads in the Boneyard. Don't buy into this sham. Nels Norene vagabondsurf.com |
